V/A ARTISTS Byg Special Disc Jockey (Byg promo only)
Never seen promotionnal BYG item. Specialy made for radio DJ, with many useful tracks such as "Le Cocotier" and "Wanka Tanka" by COEUR MAGIQUE, "Un Nouveau Monde" by ALICE, the killer "Rock Out" by ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO
A beautiful piece of music. Sonny Murray is coming with the ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO members, plus Archie Shepp and Alan Silva. The long spiritual "Suns Of Africa", with the delicate hypnotic chant of Jeanne Lee is blessing the first side. 15 minutes of cosmic jazz a la Pharaoh Sanders. On Bside "RIP" is based on a rhythmic loop led by the horns... intense!
ARCHIE SHEPP Yasmina, A Black Woman (Byg Actuel 4)
"Yasmina" begins with that stunning modal bass, then the piano theme (incredible Dave Burrell performance at the end!), and the horns that killing you. The Art Ensemble Of Chicago personnel strikes again. Of course Mister Shepp solo are the cherry on the cake...
CLAUDE DELCLOO Arthur Jones Africanasia (Byg Actuel 6)
Claude Delcloo wanted the reunion between Africa (rhythmicaly) and Asia (melodicaly) on the long beautiful tune "Africanasia". As usal the Art Ensemble minus Lester Bowie is on the back. Superb.

BURTON GREENE ENSEMBLE Aquariana (Byg Actuel 8)
Burton Greene was inspired both by Yoga meditation and Bela Bartok... just imagine the musical reunion between the two... BEB GUERIN, DIDIER MALHERBE and CLAUDE DELCLOO are part of the mystical journey..
Before being the famous sax player, Shepp hesitated between music and writings, as he was also a poem and theatre writer. On this record the reunion is double: he uses both of his talents on the intense spoken words "Poem For Malcom", and he also invites people from the two universe: straight bop jazz (Philly Joe Jones, Hank Mobley) and "new" jazz (Burton Greene, Alan Silva..) players.
Half of the tracks here are written by Carla Bley or Annette Peacock. But my favourite here is the Paul Bley own composition Mazatalon.
Alternative plain white cover, no blue pattern like showed.
Another totally experimental trio. Extreme improvisation by Philippe Mate on sax tenor, Andre Maurice (on a out-tuned Cello) and... JEAN PHILIPPE SABAR on piano, the french porn OST master and responsible for the MARIAGE COLLECTIF soundtrack. The three musicians go very far, using their instruments in all way possible (the Cello as a percussion!). Obviously interesting.

ANTHONY BRAXTON S/T (Byg Actuel 15)
Strange improvising experience inspired both by free jazz and contemporary music. The large amount of instruments used by every band members is impressive: behind the "classic" instrument chaos, you can hear siren, so-called sound machines, mouth organ, darbouka, logs..
Great spiritual jazz trio composed of Kuhn, Aldo Romano on drums and JF Jenny Clark on Bass. With the deep "Scandal".

Another insane session by Archie Shepp. The mouth organ intro of "My Angel" is just mental.

DAVE BURRELL Echo (Byg Actuel 20)
Very intense session featuring ARCHIE SHEPP. From the organized chaos of "Echo" and "Peace" is coming the stellar piano of Dave Burrell, trying to reach serenity.

GRACHAN MONCUR III New Africa (Byg Actuel 21)
Incredible jazz session written during a jazz festival in Africa, the first time Moncur came in the mother land. Based on a two notes piano theme by Dave Burrell, "New Africa" is a stunning journey into rhythm. The deep, melancolic and captivating "Space Spy", "Exploration"and "When" confirms this LP as one of the best in the label.

ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO S/T (Byg double Actuel 204)
Superb double LP reuniting two LPs by AEOC: A Jackson In Your House and Message To Our Folks. Extraordinaire use of voice, silence, explosions of sounds and weird rhythmics... the incredible tune "Rock Out", with that twisted Ethyopian jazz influence and killer drums, worth the acquisition alone!
