NOEL McGHIE & SPACE SPIES – S/T (Disques Esperance)
One of the true west indies jazz gem! I'm so happy to have this record on the website, even more happy to maybe let it discovered by some of you. For me far more accomplished and solid than the overhyped Guadeloupe Reflexions. This somptuous session benefits of the immense talent of GEORGES EDOUARD NOUEL on electric piano. Of course "Mademoiselle Tuloch", compiled back in the days by Manu Boubli at Comet Records, but the whole LP is superb, listen to some extracts HERE.
Cover EX / vinyl EX  150€

HENRI TEXIER – Varech (JMS)

OLIVIER GALLOIS – Nocturnes Pour Un Sax (Fontana)

CHET BAKER MEETS NOVOS TEMPOS – Salsamba (Musica)
What a lovely meeting! The legendary trumpet player meets this French/Brasilian band for the best of our ears. The session was recorded in the mythical Studi Davout. The LP is a solid all-around album, but the eponym track "Salsamba" is just a superb jazz samba tune!

GEORGES HAYES PHILARPOPIC ORCHESTRA – Steeple Chase / Concerto For Right Foot (Smoke)

Cover VG+ / vinyl EX  40€

RHODA SCOTT – Live At The Club Saint Germain (Barclay)
By far the best album from the bare feet organist, beginning with the best known jazz version of “Also Sprach Zarathustra”. Action continues with the killer “Le Saint Germain”, dope breakbeat, fine sax solo… a real favourite of mine! “Nyugi Nyugi” is in the same style, fabulous mid tempo groovy jazz. The double LP ends with another gem: the huge version of WAR “Slippin' Into Darkness”. A long time flea market classic, this record is simply one of the best jazz funk record from France and become harder and harder to find.
Cover EX / vinyl EX  30€

STEVE POTTS – Musique Pour Le Film D'Un Ami (123)

FRANCOIS RABBATH – The Sound Of A Bass (Philips)
The first time you hear this record is a real shock. You're shocked both by the intensity of this minimalistic pieces of music (a bass drum duo), and the incredibly modern sound of it. Forget the usual boring jazz bass solos, this record is more close from the GUY PEDERSEN delirium… Armand Molinetti provides some tense and very diverse rhythmic basis, and Mister Rabbath give birth to stunning sounds out of his double bass. Just listen to the extracts HERE, this is a sampler filler dreams, a loops goldmine, and the real deal for any strange jazz aficionados. Second press.

CHRISTIAN VANDER / FRANK RAHOLISON – Fiesta In Drums (Palm)
Great drum only session by one of the most famous drummer in Europ. The story here is this record appeared to be made "behind the back" of Vander, as his solos was made at first to be used on other jazz session, but not as a solo album. But Palm boss Jef Gilson prefered to released it as a drum battle (the Raholison parts were over-dubbed after!) to benefit of the Magma leader notoriety Anyway, this is the deal if you're after crunchy drumbreaks. So many useful moments for the producers. Listen to some extracts HERE!

MINORU MURAOKA – Osorezan Suite (Yupileru)
Another Frenchattack exclusivity with this virtually unknown (at least outside of its original country) and incredibly rare Japanese jazz record. Not to be confused with the other quiet common Osorezan Suite record, there's no relation except for the title. This is in fact a second press, released circa 1975, of an impossible to find record from 1970, the year of recording. This live session is a mind-blowing mix of Japanese folkloric music played by a traditional band, with the cream of the crop of the Japanese jazzmen. I will be short, one of the track is THE BEST PSYCH JAZZ ROCK TUNE I'VE HEARD since a long time! A hell of a monster spiritual piece with super phat drums, delirious solos, David Axelrod-like strings… Between Dorothy Ashby, Electric Prunes and Shamek Farrah! You just have to listen it twice to believe a track like this is still unknown in the rare groove game… The whole record is solid listening from start to finish, the first track being another masterpiece of traditional/modern western blended music. Listen to this Japanese Holy Grail HERE . Some clicks despite flawless copy, maybe a bad recording? Anyway you can't find more obscure and clean than this! Please serious offers only!

ENSEMBLE DE PERCUSSION DE PARIS VINCENT GEMIGNANI – Pour Le Kama Sutra / Concordances (Concert Hall)
One of the record that clearly defined a main frenchattack motivation: showing that French 70s music is not just about Gainsbourg, yé yé music and wet dreams female singers! The intensity and creativity of this piece of concrete music, added to a strong sense of groove, created by Mister Gemignani, who invented his own percussive instruments (the Bronté , used on this record) and gave us one of the top LP coming from France during this era (Modern Pop Percussions), was always the right example of this main idea. But back to this LP. “Pour Le Kama Sutra”, created by Jacques Charpentier and performed by the Gemignani Ensemble, is a stunning journey into sound, highlighted by this enormous funky breakbeat that blessed two minutes of the record. Essential.

MICHEL PORTAL – Turbulence (Harmonia Mundi)
Rare Michel Portal LP on the famous Musique Francaise D'Aujourd'hui serie. The team of musicians invited is quiet incredible : Andre Ceccarelli, Mino Cinelu (Moravagine, Chute Libre), Daniel Humair, Bernard Lubat, Yannick Top…! Crazy percussions, bugged out proto electronic production, eastern or african moods, 80s synth and twisted keyboards FX… Portal mixed all his influences in this record and the result is just unique and strongly interesting for those who're after avant-garde and leftfield jazz. LISTEN THE EXTRACTS HERE.
Cover EX / vinyl VG+ (super clean copy except a thin scratch causing light click listenable on the extracts on some part of Bside)   30€

JAMEY AEBERSOLD – Jazz And Rock Nothin' But Blues (Jamey Aebersold)

Nice post ZAO LP by the great Francois Cahen, one of my favourite french jazz pianist, who was also part of Magma at a time. Here surrounded by a world cast composed of Jack Dejohnette of Miroslav Vitous. The album is good fusion jazz, but the main track is the superb “Alize”, with killer bongos and bass intro.

JAMAHA!! – Extended Nose (Circulasione Totale)
Ultra obscure 1986 Norwegian jazz VERY drums oriented. Actually, the drummer sends an avalanche of leftfield breakbeats to your sampler! Broken groove, destructured rhythms and strange no wave atmosphere on the whole LP. Listen some extracts HERE .

SECRET AFRO JAZZ BOMB – ??? (???)
Totally slept-on record! Stunning deep afro jazz music performed by a west african band that going to commit itself in a forgettable funk music during the 80s… but back to this record. Just listen to the FIRST TRACK of this album and savour this hypnotic jazz with some spacy synth FX, addictive voice hook, huge sax and guitar solo, funky horns section… a complete killer! The album has numerous dope moments I put on the EXTRACTS… I still don't understand why this record is not well known in the game!
Cover VG+ / vinyl VG+   60€

QUASAR – Planete Sauvage (Goraan)
No, there's no relation between this record and the sought after soundtrack by Alain Goraguer. This is the kind of record that was totally put aside not so long ago, because of the large amount of synthesizer sounds shamelessly used here. And since it's the sound of today, many of you should dig the groovy “jazz wave” feeling of this record. Listen to “Theme 86” , “Resistance”. The sort-of disco/italo jazz “Crystal”, with its massive keyboards solos even remember the good dancefloor moments of the second and third album by CORTEX.
Cover EX/ vinyl EX  25€

CRAZY ZHEUL WORDLESS JAZZ – ??? (???)
Obscure 89 LP by this French band, a sort of vocal group experimentations with some killer jazz funk moments or prog Zheul excursions. The work on voices is really interesting, you have some weird electro FX, some fine 80s synth arrangements and the bass is usually very on point. A sampling goldmine! Just listen to the extracts PART1 and PART2.
Cover EX/ vinyl EX  45

SACHA DISTEL / SLIDE HAMPTON – Back To Jazz (EMI)
Beautiful big band LP by Sacha Distel. With a superb version of “Felicadade”, full of female scat, luscious string arrangement and great guitar solo by Sacha himself… a favourite of mine! The “Girl From Ipanema” version worth a listen too, as “Francine” and the brillant modal “Saki” are equally good.

MORAVAGINE – S/T (Promophone)
I would not say it’s a french attack exclusivity… but it’s close to that! Mister Hutman digged in his basement and let me offer you this rarity in stunning condition. This is unplayed copy of one of the most rare jazz funk record from this era in France. Be sure the price is really fair, consideering only few hundred were pressed.
Moravagine was the first band of future active members of Chute Libre, the mythical french jazz funk combo. These jazzcats are Olivier Hutman (piano), percussionist extraordinaire Mino Cinelu and Denis Barbier (flute). To know everything about the band and this record, I encourage you to go on the interview section of the website and jump on the Olivier Hutman interview. The man has a lot to say. As for music, this is a huge melting pot of influence, ranging from afro jazz to samba, to folk, to free jazz music and so on. This is experimentation without the cheesiness, people who were not afraid to try everything they had in their mind. Don’t take my words only, listen to the flute groove of “Funky Seven”, the huge basslines and solos of “Andromede (2) (3) (4)", “Culbuto”, the fabulous “Ruhenol (2)" that evolving into a very Cortex-style samba with Hutman killing it on piano, “Usted De Poisson” and finally the insane space jazz of “Zabuco (2)" . Every track is a winner. A must have that no one have.

UNKNOWN JAZZ GROOVE BREAKS AND LOOPS – ??? (???)
The most insane discovery since a long time ! The weird idea of this early 80s big band was to made contemporary music for the dancefloor, unfortunatly no distributors were interested and this record was never released! The result is a totally inovative and leftlfield sound in every tracks that will make every beat diggers cream their pants! Breaks for days, monthes and years! Just listen the long extract: you have mad percussion breaks, bizarre scat loop, delirious east europ and gipsy atmosphere you'll find only on this record, a real new musical experience. V/A ARTISTS – Jazz In Britain 68-69 (Decca Eclipse)
Rare collection of moody jazz tunes by some of the top brit jazz players from the late 60s. Huge accent on horns, but my personnel preference going to the John Taylor deep play on electric piano. Clear loud mix and beautiful jazz music.
